Want to supply your own lights and fans? You can.

Many homeowners like to pick their own fixtures and fans, and we’re happy to install them. Before we do, we need to verify the weight of each fixture and fan so we can confirm the ceiling or wall box it mounts to is rated to support it safely.

  • Light fixtures: A standard ceiling box is generally rated for fixtures up to 50 pounds. Heavier fixtures, such as large chandeliers, need a box listed and marked for that weight or a separate support.
  • Ceiling fans: A fan must hang from a box that is listed for fan support. A standard light box is not designed for a fan’s weight or the constant vibration of a spinning motor.
  • Extra-large fixtures: These may need added blocking or a brace in the ceiling.

When you call, have the product’s brand, model number and listed weight handy (check the box or the manufacturer’s spec sheet). If the existing box isn’t rated for your fixture, we’ll replace or reinforce it before installing. A fixture or fan that falls can cause serious injury and costly damage.

Did we wire your home?

LaFlamme Electric wires new homes for many of Atlanta’s leading builders, so we know how your home was built and where everything is. If you’d like to upgrade the lighting or add fans after closing, the team that wired your home is the one to call.

Electrical work is not a hobby

Hanging a fixture looks simple, but loose connections, overloaded or undersized boxes, missing grounds and mismatched dimmers can cause shocks, flickering, overheating and fires. This is not a job for a handyman. Protect your home and family by hiring a licensed electrical contractor.

Why homeowners choose LaFlamme Electric

  • Licensed and insured Georgia electrical contractor
  • Trusted by Atlanta’s top home builders to wire thousands of new homes
  • Local service techs based in Alpharetta
  • Clean, careful, on-time work with clear, upfront pricing

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy my own light fixtures or ceiling fans?
Yes. Just tell us the brand, model and weight ahead of time so we can confirm the mounting box will support it.

Can a ceiling fan replace an existing light?
Often, yes. If the existing box isn’t rated for fan support, we’ll install one that is.

Can you hang a chandelier on a high or two-story ceiling?
Yes. We have the equipment to install and wire fixtures in high foyers and great rooms safely.

Do LED fixtures work with my existing dimmers?
Not always. Older dimmers can cause LEDs to flicker or buzz. We’ll match a compatible dimmer to your new lights.

Do you serve my area?
We serve Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell, Cumming, Sandy Springs, Duluth and the greater Atlanta area.
